Val Walton, Care Assistant at Brimington Care Home in Chesterfield has been crowned ‘Carer of the Year’ at the Four Seasons Care Awards
The award Val won commends her for how she understands her residents’ individual needs and how she strives to personalise their care whilst providing them with special experiences.
Following over 1,000 nominations, Val was shortlisted with five other colleagues from over 250 Four Seasons Care Homes across the UK.
Paul Hayes, Commissioning and Commercial Operations Director for Four Seasons Health Care, who presented Val with this award said: “Our Carers are the back bone of this organisation. They provide 1.7 million hours a year of care to our residents. Minute by minute, hour by hour they are making care special day in, day out. I want to thank all of the Carers out there, you really are amazing people. Val epitomises what it is to be a Carer and I was very humbled to present her with this award.”
Clare Bates, Home Manager for Brimington Care Home said: “Val is one of the most sincere and caring people I know she always treats each resident with dignity and respect. Ensuring each person is treated as an individual with their own unique personalities. Val has shown dedication to the residents of Brimington Care Centre whilst going through a period of emotional hard time herself. There is always a smile for the residents and time to chat about their lives. I feel she deserves this for all that she does for both residents and colleagues she works with. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate her on this award.”
On receiving the award, Val said: “I was over the moon when I found out I was nominated. I love being a carer, I couldn’t think of doing anything else. That is why I am completely shocked and humbled to have won. I feel no different to anyone else, not special in any way, but I am privileged to be highly thought of by my colleagues.”
