James Irving, Care Assistant at The Lodge Care Home in Killamarsh has been crowned ‘Our Values Champion’ at the Four Seasons Care Awards.

The award James won commends him for living and breathing the company values whilst working in The Lodge Care Home. James was able to demonstrate how he brings a little joy to everyday experiences, whilst always being respectful, trusted, caring and making a difference to the residents and relatives in the home.

Following over 1,000 nominations, James was shortlisted with five other colleagues from over 250 Four Seasons Care Homes across the UK.

Louise Cherry, People Director for Four Seasons Health Care who presented James with this award said: “It’s always a pleasure to interview those shortlisted for this award. The stories we have heard, and the enthusiasm from everyone involved, reminded me of why we work in this sector and the amazing impact we have on our residents’ lives, every day.

“There can be no question that James lives our values in everything he does. From the moment our discussion started, it was clear that he not only personally lives the values, but his enthusiasm for them and fundamental belief that they are the right thing to do has had an infective impact on those around him.

“His personal experience on “the other side of care” has bred an attitude and passion for great care giving. In my opinion, James is a very worthy winner of this award.”

Janet McVeigh, Home Manager for The Lodge Care Home said: “James is a fantastic asset to the home, making sure everyone is OK as soon as he walks through the door. He spends the time to get to know our residents on an individual basis and ensures their needs are met every day.

“He has a very positive effect on the team, and finds solutions to any problems they raise. He is a fantastic motivator, helping the team to make a difference on a daily basis. I am very proud that James has won this award.”

On receiving the award, James said: “Throughout the day and the evening I had overwhelming feelings of happiness, to be sat amongst wonderful people who work for a company I love from all regions was a privilege. When I was announced the winner, my first thought was to give my hero Louise Cherry, who is an inspiration to me, a big hug. I find it hard to see myself as a winner, but from winning I only hope to inspire in some way, to spread the message of why I love everything I do and to hopefully get to meet more inspirational colleagues from other regions.

“During the evening one of my colleagues truly moved me with her kind words of congratulations and it’s lovely to see that my wonderful Manager is proud of me.

“I ask that we please continue with the awards because the winners are only representatives of the wonderful people in our homes who believe in delivering care focused on upholding each individual’s dignity, and delivering care with the highest degree of respect, which of course everyone deserves.”
